Dr. French E. Oliver
BIBLE CAMPAIGN. That the interest is still being maintained is evidenced by the overflow meeting that was held in ire Empire hall last evening, when Dr Oliver took for his .subject ‘‘The Virgin Birth anil the Miracles of Christ” basing his remarks on 1 John lch., verses 1 to 13. This, he said, was the bulwark of Christianity to all Evangelicals, and he clearly pointed out the differences between the believer’s faith and the view of/.the modernist. The former firmly believed in the Virgin Birth of the Lord Jesus Christ and that the Bible . was Gorl’s divinely inspired word. The : latter said Christ was only a good man, and that the Bible contained only some of-tho Word of God. Many other points were stressed the. two lines of belief being well defined. The doctor , then went on to say that environment would never change man. For instance, take half a dozen pig's into a parlour and see if it would change their habits. Man, though elevated, would only continue in his human habits. It was only the ‘‘Blood of Christ” remarked the preacher that could cleanse a man from his sin, and raise him up in life. Many portions of scripture were read to support the virgin birth. There was clearly proven that the miracles of God were sure things, as the raising of Lazarus from the dead and the forming of Eve by taking a rib from Adam. In this act, stated the preacher, God applied the anaesthetic, and performed the first operation in human history. These .truly were miracles, he declared. In concluding, Dr Oliver stated that many requests had conic from many quarters for him to stay in Palmerston North, and he felt a great need was here so ho would hold one more meeting tonight (Friday) and the subject would be ‘‘Sudden Death.”
