New Zealand’s Virtual Export Monopoly

Tho Tariff Board’s inquiry into the application for an increased duty on bacon, ham and pork was continued to-day. Mr. W. R. Blow, the Now Zealand Government agent, produced a document relating to the Australian and New Zealand 0 reciprocity agreoment. Mr. A. Watson, director of the New South Wales Marketing Board, said practically tho whole of the hams and bacon coming into Australia were exported from New Zealand, f.o.b. prices being 3s 3d to 3s 3Jd a pound. Landed costs" into store hero, with duty, brought the price to about Is Sd. Mr. Watson added that the prices thus charged for New Zealand ham and bacon conformed substantially to the prices charged for Australian products. The inquiry was adjourned to Melbourne.
