STOCK SALES

Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd., report on the sales of the week as under:— At the 17th annual Sandon hogget sale held on Thursday, August 15, a yarding of some 3600 came to hand of which 3000 changed hands. Owing to recent climatic conditions, the hoggets were not dp to the standard of former years. The sale did not open with any briskness but soon brightened up and for the better class of hoggets competition was keen and steady. The following, are prices:—Ewe hoggets, 30s, 325, 323 6d, 335, 35s 6d, 36s 2d; wether hoggets, 19s 7d, 22s 6d, 245, 24s 9d, 25s Bd, 25s lOd, 26s 3d, 26s 9d, 27s 3d to 28s 3d; fc.f. hoggots, 17s, 20s, 20s 3d, 20s lOd, 20s lid.

At the Foilding sale on Friday, there was a very fair yarding of sheep, a large yarding of dairy stock and a small entry of store and fat cattle. Fat sheep were not eagerly competed for with the exception of ewes while there was a fair demand of stores. There was a fairly keen demand for dairy stock and steady competition for fat cattle at slightly increased prices. Light fat lambs, 20s 6d, 23 s 6d, 22s Cd; couple extra heavy, 335; fat owes, 265, 27s 7d, 295, 31s lOd; fat wetbers, 80s 9d to 34s 8d; m.a. ewes r.w. S.D. and Romney rams, 22s Id; cull b.f. hoggets, 12s 6d; b.f. hoggets, 18s 2d, 19s 3d, 19s 6d, 20s Id. Jersey springing heifers, £7 10s, £8 10s, £9, £lO 10s to £l3; springing cows, £9, £lO 10s, £ll, £l2 10s; light fat cows, £7 10s, £8 to £8 empty cows, £3, £3 10s, £3 15s.
