The accelerated process of land pur* chase for subdivision, which his followed the appointment of the new Government, is Shown by information made available regarding details of tho Gov- ‘ ernment’s purchases. These cover tho period December, 1928, till July 31, 1929. Properties bought number 14, with a total arda 13,027 acr6s. The total purchase price was £255,467 and the average price per acre £l9 12s 3d. Proposed subdivisions number 71; the average capital value of each subdivision is £3600. Following the rush of soldier settlement, there was an almost complete cessation of purchases of land for subdivision by the former Government from April 1, 1924, till it went out of office in November, 1928, it having bought only 13 properties of 20,153 acres at a cost o£ £i78,878.
