DID MR POISON SPEAK WITHOUT AUTHORITY?
SOUTH CANTERBURY DENIAL. Per Press Association. TIMARU, Last Night. Mr. P. R. Talbot, president of thp South Canterbury branch of the Now Zealand Farmers’ Union, expressed surprise at tho contents of the statement mado in tho House by Mr. W. J. Poison (Stratford), president of the Union, relative to the discussion on the taxation proposals in the Budget. Mr. Poison stated that he was ' * speaking for the farmer” but in Mr. Talbot’s opinion, Mr. Poison had spoken out of his turn. Mr. Talbot said Mr. Poison, while president, had received no mandatory powers from the various Farmers’ Union branches as yet to speak on their behalf. In fact, that day he (Mr. Talbot) had received a telegram asking that delegates be appointed from the South Canterburj branch to attend a conference in Wcl lington on Thursday next.
Southland Disaffection “PROPOSALS WILL REACT ADVERSELY ON PRODUCTION.” INVERCARGILL, Last Night. The Southland executive of the Farmers’ Union discussed the Government’! taxation proposals on Saturday and the following resolution was carried: “That this executive views with grave apprehension tho super-tax proposed to be put ou land and also the reduction in mortgage exemption and considers that if they are put into effect, it will react on production and it is further requested that tho Government economise in overy possible way until the Budget is satisfactorily balanced,”
