PUBLISHING AGENTS CHARGED WITH FRAUD
ARREST IN MELBOURNE.
(Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Last Night. As stated in tho Star a fortnight ago, warrants were issued for two men, Arthur P. Strange and John Tahor, who had suddenly disappeared from AuekBo'th men were engaged in the business of Tahor and Co., publishing and advertising agents, with a suite of offices at 509 Dilworth building. Shortly after tho issue of the warrants, Strange was arrested at Thames, while Tahor could not be found, it being believed that ho went to Melbourne under the name of Taylor. Advice from the Victorian police has now boon received by the Auckland police that Tahor has been arrested at Melbourne. Provided tho cost of his extradition to New Zealand is guaranteed, he will bo escorted back to Auckla Strange appeared at the Police Court last week, wnen ho was remanded to appear again this morning. The charge preferred against him was as follows: "That with intent to defraud, he obtained £l5O from Arthur Frederick Rowe at Auckland on Juno 12 by falsely rcprosentiiig that he had a souna and well-established publishing company in Auckland at No. 509 Dilworth buildings and that ho was the sole for certain publications, among which was tho 1930 Catholic Review and that he had authority from the head of tho Roman Catholic Church in New Zealand to have it distributed in all Roman Catholic churches." When Strange came before Mr. F. K. Hunt S.M., at the Police Court this morning, Chicf-Dctectivo Hammond said that as Tahor, whom he described as the principal’' had been arrested in Melbourne, he would ask for a further remand, in Strange’s case. Mr. Hupt granted tho remand.
