FROM EWEN TO DAVE

Bussell Street School, Dear Dave, How arc you getting on since I loft your school? I often think of you arid of the good times we used to have together. But I am not sorry I came to Bussell street school for I am quite hrippy hero both in my work and in my play, and now wc arc stealing Air. Campbell away from you to be our headmaster and look after our interests. Wc arc practising at football—l mean when we can, for our football ground is a series of small lakes at present with plenty of good black mud between, Two boys have already come to grief in the quagmire and had to bo sent home for a change of clothing. But that’s nothing, just wait a bit and see what a tine sportsground wo’ll have! Wo have the right sort of committee and wc are looking forward to great: things in the future. They had a meeting the other night, and formed

a Parents’ Association. When wc came io school next morning there was a drawing on tho board —a plan of the school grounds showing _ all the proposed improvements which they had been talking about and my word, Dave, we were pleased and interested Avhen Air. Irwin told us about it.

But it will take a lot of money, Dave, and the "committee arc starting off on July 3rd. with a big concert in the Opera House. This is really why I thought of" writing to you to tell you it is going to bo one of tho best concerts held in the town. No, not a children’s concert —at least, the children arc not performing this time —but professionals, the best talent, (I think that’s what you call it) the town can produce and some visitors from Wellington. You will see tho programme in the paper if you watch out. Tell all the fellows you know about it, Dave, and ask them to tell their friends to come along and help a neighbouring school and at the same time get two shillings worth for a shilling. Now, Dave, although wc were the best of pals at Terrace End, I never found out where you lived, so I am sending this letter to tlie “Times” hoping that you will see it, and not knowing which newspaper your father takes, I am also sending ' a copy of this letter to the “Standard.” My father says that the Editors arc good fellows and are sure to put it in for they like helping the schools and the. children.

Good-bye for tlie present, Dave. All good wishes from our school to yours. I remain, " Your loval little pal, J,: L#; EWEX. : r.S. Hope to see you at I shall be giving out programmeS XLobk out for me at the door, I wauLia-.ictL you something. .. 0
