SLUGGISH RIVER LOAN NOT YET SANCTIONED
LOANS BOARD DELAYS.
At a meeting of the Sluggish Hiver ■Drainage board held yesterday, it was reported that the sanction of the Local Government Loans board had not yet been received for the board’s £2,000 loan, which is to bo used for drain cleaning and extension. The loan is being raised under, the Relief of Unemployment Act and it is estimated that about 30 unemployed will be given work under the scheme. Regret w r as expressed that the loan had not yet been sanctioned, and the clerk was instructed to write to the loans board, asking that the necessary permission be granted as speedily as possible. The meeting adopted tho plans for the iir,st section of the work, which were submitted by the engineer (Mr. F. C. Hay). The plans cover two miles and three chains of Main drain extending from the outlet into the Oroua river to the concrete bridge on the Mangawhata road. Provision is. made for widening, deepening, and bringing tho drain into alignment. The clerk reported that the £2OOO required under the loan would be advanced by a Christchurch investor at 5} per cent.
