ALL SAINTS’ GOLDEN OFFERING
Next Sunday a very special appeal—- “ The Golden Offering’’—will be made to the parishioners of All Saints.’ The parish through it’s distinguished history has always been one of the largest and most influential churches in the !Worth Island but of late years under the leadership of Canon Fancourt, its growth and consequent influence throughout the Manawatu have been phenomenal. Few fully realise the magnitude of the organisation of the parish and the great work which it is doing in this town and district. Take, for example, the Sunday Schools in their tremendously important work of training the children of the parish; to-day thero arc 8 Sunday Schools in the parish attended by 839 children who are taught by 82 teachers. Does not that work alone, apart from all the other varied activities of the church, make sufficient appeal to the generosity and sense of :duty of every parishioner and citizen 1 But the more healthy and encrjadc I growth of the parish the greater is the (expenditure. Apart from capital requirements such as new' buildings, new' organ, &c., the minimum actual expenditure required to run the parish amounts to at least £2OOO a year, thp whole of w’hich is dervide from voluntary offerings. To meet the ever-grow-ing expenditure it has been customary to hold an annual spring fair or giant bazaar each year. Wow a bazaar may be an excellent method to entice palishxoner3 to give something extra over and above their usual offerings, but as a means of raising sufficient to meet the ordinary expenditure of the church, it is ideal neither in principle nor in practice, and therefore, this year, it lias been decided to hold no spring fair or bazaar, but to make a direct appeal next Sunday to all parishioners to make adirect and generous donation to the church, upon which they depend for so much.
