SPEAKER ASSUMES ROBES OF OFFICE
SWEARING IN O FMEMBERS.
(British Official Wireless.) Received Thursday, 7 p.m. RUGBY, June 26. The picturesque ceremony of electing the new Speaker of the House of Commons was completed to-day. The King's approval to Captain Fitzroy's selection as Speaker was communicated to the Speaker-elect and Members of the Commons, who wero summoned to the House of Lords for the purpose. Ou returning, the Speaker donned his official robes and made tho usual declaration, announcing ho had in name, on behalf of the Commons, laid claim to all its ancient undoubted rights and privileges, particularly freedom of speech, freedom of debate and freedom from arrest. Having returned thanks to the Commons for tho honour, he took the oath and signed the roll. Members of the government, led by the Prime Minister, then filed past the Speaker and took the oath. Occupants of the front Opposition bench nest proceeded to the table and over 230 private members then followed. Tho swearing-in of members will be completed to-morrow.
