ROTORUA SWEPT BY CYCLONIC STORM

WIDESPREAD DAMAGE. TREMENDOUS SEA RAISED ON LAKE. Per Press Association. ROTORUA, Last Night. A severe cyclonic storm swept the district to-day, being followed by rain. Electric current was cut off from Rotorua for nearly two hours. At Turakina big trees were blown down and damage done to houses, electrie power polos and telegraphs. At Ngongotaha, tho National Timber Coy’s mill was unroofed, trees ripped down and much general damage done. There were many narrow escapes from flying timber and iron. Tho cyclone crossed the lake between Mokoia Island and Hamurana, raising a tremendous sea. Severe thunderstorms have been felt at intervals all day, with heavy rain at. Rotorua.
