MOTORS NOT PAYING FULLY FOR ROADS

A HAMILTON PROTEST. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, Last Night. Mr. Rupert Worley, Borough engineer, in addressing Eotarians to-day, said the present competition of motors with tho railways was grossly unfair, as the motors did not pay fully for the use of tho roads.. Poor people, who were unable to afford a motor, had to bear an undue buden. On the principle of making tho user pay, Mr. Worley suggested the imposition of petrol and vehiclo taxes, sufficiently heavy to cover tho whole cost of construction and maintenance of adequate roads. The State should construct and maintain the main highways and hand local authorities a duo proportion of the taxes for subsidiary roads.
