GET RID OF STAINS

The first thing to do is to llnd out, if possible, the nature of the stain. Naturally, most stains arc removed more.. readily if treated when freshly done. If left for a long period, many stains seem obstinate. Remember, too, that materials of different texture requiro totally different treatment. With cotton or linen fabrics, for insancc, chemicals may be used in safety, if rinsed afterwards. 1 With coloured materials, test on an odd scrap of material first. With silk and wool, chemicals should rarely bo used. Fruit or vegetable stains may be removed as a rule with a strong solution of borax.

Red ink stains should bo treated with a solution of borax and water. Ripe tomato juice sometimes acts as a solvent for some kinds of ink.

Very delicate fabrics may be wetted with peroxide of hydrogen and put in tho sun. Barker colours which do not yield to any of these methods should be covered with a paste of mustard, which when dry should be washed away with cold water.
