MURDER OF GIRL STUDENT

A European builder’s artisan, whose name at the request of tho authorities the Press docs not publish, was arrested at Cwelo on a charge of the murdet of an eightecn-yoar-old University student named Kanthaclc, daughter of a well-known engineer in Johannesburg, at Zolo plantation in November, 1927. . . ~ , After a 36 hours’ search, in which the Air Force joined, tho mutilated body of the girl was found by a Boy Scout, covered with leaves and bark. Tho girl, accompanied by a terrier, left home to go for an afternoon stroll. The murder was presumed vto’- be_ a native outrage, but a reward of £SOO failed to elicit a single clue. It is known tho arrested man was working in tho neighbourhood of the scene of the murder at tho time.
