PALMERSTON NORTH CHOIR
SUCCESSFUL INITIAL MEETING.
Yesterday evening at the Kosy hall a large number of ehoralists assemble!, at the invitation of Mr. J. Holmes Runnielcs to rehearse Mendelssohn s “St. Paul.’’ At the outset Mr. Runmcles explained the twofold object of the gathering—to supply enjoyment of music for the many ehoralists in the' town who desired it and to devote any results of their labours —in the shape of a concert—to the unemployed fund. By means of a collection each week, all expenses of hall, hire of music and advertising would be paid, .thus having no debt week by week. This being agreed to by all present it was decided to adopt the name of the Palmerston North Choir, membership to be, not by election, but by invitation. There will be _ no voice trial, the members being relied upon to use their judgment in issuing invitations to other ehoralists. The conductor indicated his intention of giving his services free to the cause It was resolved to meet next Monday notwithstanding it being a holiday.
