STOCK CAUGHT IN STORM
.Severa I mobs of sheep and a few catt-lo were on the road from Poverty Bay to Haivke’s Bay last week Avlteii the storm broke in its full force, but they were not affected to such a great extent as were the passenger and mail services. About .10,000 ewes and wethers were on the load between Poverty Bay and Hawke’s Bay, one line comprising 4000, and also about GOO cattle, but as they travelled by stock tracks in the back country fgr the most part, slips did not affect them to the same extent as if they had been on the main highway. The swollen streams, of course, impeded their advance, but once these went, doivfi there was little difficulty in making the usual progress.
