FEILDING A. AND. P. ASSOCIATION MEETS
Mr E. Burrell New President
NECESSITY FOR ORGANISATION AMONG FARMERS STRESSED
The annual meeting of the Feilding A. and P. Association was held last evening, Mr. J. G. Eliott, retiring president, presiding over a large atteudauee ot members. The annual report was received. lu speaking to the report, Mr. Eliott said tiiat the association could congratulate itself on its sound financial position. There was one matter to which he felt bound to refer and that was whether the individual members of tho general committee felt satisfied that they w'ero doing all the work they could during Show time. He could not help noticing that tho expenditure on account of wages during the Show was increasing and this was in a measuic due to the fact that work originally undertaken by members of the committee %vas now left to hired labour. In conclusion, he trusted that the president elected would receive the wholehearted support of the committee. “The association has turned the corner and is on the up grade to a marked degree,” said Mr. J. W. Bramwell, in seconding the motion for the adoption of the report. He joined with the president in urging a more vigorous canvass by tho committee in the matter of membership. In reviewing the balance-sheet Mr. Bramwell referred to the increase in the gate returns and in this connection stressed the need for greater effort by members of the committee in assisting the control of the gates. Donations, which totalled £368, were below the average, notwithstanding evidence on every hand of substantial prosperity. Membership subscriptions were up,"but were not what they should be, in such a wealthy district. The farm account was certainly a credit: able feature of the society’s operations and congratulations Were due to those responsible for this work. Mr. Bramwell expressed tho opinion that the society must strive to make the show more interesting. Election of Officers.
The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr. E. Burrell; vice-presi-dents, Hon. J. G. Cobbe and Messrs. C. E. Taylor, A. Kidd, and 0. McElroy; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. W. Bramwell; committee, Messrs. F. J. Boddy, W. (I. Booth, J. G. Eliott, J. Knight, E. Richardson, N. J. Short and D. L. Younger; auditors, Messrs. E. J. Wackrill and A. H. McGuire; town members of general committee, Messrs. A. C. Buist, E. H. Lange, H. Sniithcrs, Thomas Collins, V. E. Smith and D. Whisker.
In retiring from the chair, Mr. Eliott conveyed his thanks to members of the association and particularly to the committee, for their loyal support. Farmers should rally round tho Y oung Farmers’ Club and give it every possible support. Ho would like to see two or three members of the club made honorary members of the committee. Another matter which he wished to mention was the imperative need for all farmers to link-up with their union. All knew the aims and objects of the union and with every other section of the community so strongly organised, it was essential that the fanners should support an organisation which was equipped and ready to fight for their interests. (Hear, hear.) Mr. Eliott touched on the fact that the Feilding Collie Club would be holding its annual dog trials next week and congratulated Mr. Burrell on his appointment and welcomed him to the chair.
In returning thanks for his election to the presidency, Mr. Burrell paid a tribute to the work of Mr. Eliott. Votes of thanks were accorded the retiring president, the secretary (Mr. E. H. Fisher), his assistant (Miss Millar) and the farm committee.
