EMPLOYERS’ TERMS AGAIN REJECTED MEN AT END OF RESOURCES. United Press Association — By Electri* Telegraph—Copyright. Received Saturday, 2 a.m. SYDNEY, May 24. Shots were fired to-night at men employed in timber yards but nobody was injured. The incident occurred in Canterbury suburb, while tho men were returning to their homes. A Melbourne message states that once again efforts to settle tho timber strike havo broken down, tho Trade Union representatives having rejected the employers’ terms. Much Fiery Talk at Meeting- of Strikers URGED TO STOP AT NOTHING. LAST DESPERATE APPEAL.
SYDNEY, May 24.
Much fiery talk marked a meeting of striking timber workers at tne Trades Hall. Speakers urged tbe men to stop at nothing and prevent wagons from leaving the yards. The names of loyal workers were read out, and a speaker declared: “Now you know where they live.” A striker, however, addressing the meeting, asked: “Why don’t you tell the truth and say we are beaten.”
Financial troubles and the weakening of the morale of the men seein to havo broken the back of the strike. Sydney delegates have been summoned to Melbourne by the central strike committee, and there is a possibility of a resumption on a 48-hour week basis. An urgent and last desperate appeal fiom the Australian Council of Trades Unions in Melbourne to federated unions asking for funds will be made.
