On Saturday evening a social and dance was given by the members ot the local football and tenuis clubs, to bid farewell to one of their most popular aud enthusiastic members, Mr Jack Beban, who is leaving shortly for Canada. Vocal items were rendered by Mrs. Clark, Mrs. W. Watt, and the Misses Younger, each item being heartily encored. Miss Minsou, Miss McLean, .Miss A’Court, of Palmerston North, and several others assisted tit the piano. During the evening Mr N. Shannon, president of the Football club, made reference to Mr. Bet-an's sportsmanlike qualities and asked him U. accept with all good wishes, a small present from the members of both clubs.
Mr Beban made a suitable reply aud wa.s given three hearty cheers, after the ringing of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow. ’ ’
A dainty supper was provided by the ladies, and at midnight the singing of "Auld Lang Sync” and the National Anthem, concluded one of the jollicst little functions held in Wiaituna for manv months.
