“THE PATSY”
On Thursday next at the Opera House for one night only, the J. C. Williamson Ltd. management will present for the only time in Palmerston North, Barry Conner’s brilliant play “The Patsy,” which is the present rage in London and New York, and which has just terminated a run of over 30 weeks in Sydney, a record which will probably stand for many years. After its sensational success in Australia, the J. O. Williamson Ltd., management purchased the English rights of “The Patsv” and it is at present being staged under their direction in London, where it is the outstanding theatrical attraction. In America there are no less than 10 companies appearing in “The Palsy’” and it has won for its author an enormous fortune. For the Australian and New Zealand representation of “The Patsy” the management engaged a company of star artists including Aliss Irene Horner, a brilliant young New York actress, who was specially engaged by the author of the play for the role of the heroine. Miss Homer has, it is said, a. quiet method which is immensely effective. From comedy she passes to pathos with a naturalness which lends added value to the effect, and she is the possessor of a charming personality that makes her a favourite from the moment she appears on the stage. Mr A. S. Byron, v. ho plays the part of Air Harrington,, is said to be one of the finest actors who has ever appeared in Australia, and Air Brandon Peters, a young and brilliant New York artist, also made himself immensely popular in Sydney. Air Gam Wren, who will play tbo role of Billy Caldwell, was at one time private secretary to Zane Grey and for two years ho was a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Aliss Eileen Sparks, who will appear as Grace Harrington, will be remembered for her fine work when she toured New Zealand with Guy Bates Post and Alaurice Moscovitch. Aliss A'cra Gerald made her first appearance in Sydney in “The Cuckoo in the Nest’’ but she was transferred from that play to “The Patsy” when it was first, staged in Alclbonrne. Only one performance can be staged of “The Patsy” for which the box plans will be opened at the Central Booking Office on Tuesday next.
