“THE- WRECKER”

The bov plans will be opened this morning for the visit of ‘The Wrecker Iho railwav mystery drama, to be staged by J- O. Williamson Ltd., m conjunction with 11. J. and Dan. Canoll, at the Opera House on Monday m b ht next. “The Wrecker” is by Arnold Ridley, the -author of “The Ghost Train” and the fact that the former play is said to be a much better work than the latter production, has naturatllv created a deal of interest in Inc Wrecker.” Owing to the fact that a number of Ibc principal artists arc due buck in Loudon shortly, the Palmerston North season will be limited to one night otilv. An outstanding feature of “The Wrecker” arc the remarkable effects which are worked by eight, ‘effects” assistants, under the direction of" Air Beg. Collins. Each of the as-H.-tants work a different mechanism and the result is said to eclipse anything previously attempted on the stage. The secrets of the train effects arc, it is said, well kept. Unless you “belong” you can’t even get a peep into the inner workings of the express trains,, and even then you are sworn to seerecy. Air Reginald Collins, who besides being director of the effects, plays one of the leading parts, is an Australian, who went to England to try his luck, and after appearing in a number of productions there he was engaged by E. J. Carroll for “The Wrecker” and he is said to be excellent in the role of Chester Kyle. The management were evidently fortunate when they engaged Aliss Josephine Wilson and Air Clayton Greene for the lea din ng roles in “The Wrecker,” as it is said that their brilliant acting has materially helped to make Arnold Bidley’s latest play the most successful of the mystery dramas which have been presented in Australia. Air Arthur Young, a youug English actor will make hi;: first appearance here in “The Wrecker” and lie will portray the same, part he enacted in the original London presentation of this drama. Aliss Noel I Sonning is still another English artist who will make her firstappearance here in “Thu Wrecker.” Altogether there are 39 people in the company.
