There was a good attendance of members on Tuesday night to commence the tourney of the Palmerston North Chess club. As all the games started were finished, it would seem that the action of the committee in allotting only one night for each round was justified, though whothcr it will have a tendency to encourage hasty, inaccurate play remains to bo seen. The results were:—Whitaker 0, Mitchell 1; Eichards 1, Arlidge 0; H. E. Thorburn 1, Messenger 0; Lattimoro 0, Stewart 1; Thirtlo K. Thornburn As a few members have not yet entered their names for the tourney, the match committeo has decided to keep the list open until next meeting, and to allow first round games to bo played then by those players who are not engaged in ladder matches. Tourney and ladder nights are to be held alternately, and already several challenges have been posted. A Bright Game.
