Ashhurst

VALEDICTORY

A number of ber friends visited Mrs Hardie on Tuesday evening to bid her farewell on the eve of her departure for the Wairarapa, where she is going cc reside with her son, Mr Tom Hardie. A resident of Ashhurst for over 20 years, Mrs Hardie has made many friends who will wish her happiness in

her new home. Although her health prevented her from taking active part in the church and social affairs of the town during recent years, Mrs Hardie lias nevertheless maintained her interest in them. During the evening Mrs Hardie was presented with an eiderdown as a mark of the esteem in which she is held by her friends. Mrs W. S. Maunder, who made the presentation, conveyed the good wishes of all and expressed the hope that Mrs Hardie would enjoy better health in her new home.

Musical items were rendered by Miss Hills (songs) and Miss Evelyn Trass (pianoforte solos), and a very pleasant evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang >Sync. ” General The residence of Mr C. Larsen at Ruukawa was completely destroyed by fire on Wednesday evening. Mr and Mrs Larsen were absent at Pahiatua when the fire occurred. The house was insured for £9OO and the contents for £2OO.
