The friends of Rev. J. D. McArthur and family will hear with pleasure that a slight improvement was noticed last evening in the condition of Mrs. McArthur, who was reported to be in a serious condition after an operation on Saturday. When the resignation of Mr. John Balsillio from the executive of the Manawatu branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was received at its annual meeting on Saturday, general regret was expressed by members. “In Mr. Balsillio we are losing the services of a kindly good old friend,’’ said Mr. 0. P. Lynch (president) in moving that Mr. Balsillio be elected an honorary life member of the executive, as a recognition of his many years of service to the Farmers’ Union. Mr. Balsillio, in tendering his resignation, stated that he did so as he was getting on in years and had retired from active farming.
