FARMERS HAVE ONLY ONE REPRESENTATIVE ON TRANSPORT BOARD
Matter for Protest
MAN AW AT U SUPPORTS AUCKLAND RESOLUTION
The annual meeting of the executive of the Manawatu branch of the Farmers ‘ Union on Saturday unanimously endorsed the following resolution passed by the Auckland branch: —
“The Auckland executive takes strong exception to the constitution of the proposed Transport Board as at present published, primary industries having practically no representation on it.”
“This matter is rather important and will be discussed at the provincial and Dominion conferences,” said Mr. 0. P. Lynch, president of tho branch, in moving that Manawatu endorse Auckland’s protest. “The counties Association has only one representative in the thirteen which are on the board. It is not enough —I think the ratepayers of New Zealand should have better representation on this board. Wo have to meet the interest on the highways loans when they fall due, not the transport people. The farming industry has only one member on that big board and if we are not watchful, if. will do what it likes and we shall have to pay tho piper.” Members unanimously endorsed tho president’s remarks and his motion that Auckland’s protest be supported was carried.
