Miss Netta Yanscn of tho Canton Villages Mission is at present visiting Palmerston North on deputation work. She is the guest of the Rev aud Mrs.. G. T. Brown. The Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce has received advice from tho Comptroller of Customs that Mr. H. •Thomas has been appointed to take up the work of assessing duty on parcels received by post at Palmerston North. Mr. Thomas will commence his duties here on April 3. At the meeting of the committee of the Manawatu Caledonian Society on Saturday night, an apology for absence was received from Mr. I). Munro, on account of illness. The secretary was instructed to write‘a letter of sympathy to Mr. Munro, wishing him a speedy recovery from his illness. At the meeting of tho committee of the Manawatu Caledonian Society on •Saturday night, a letter was read from Mr. H. L. Young, tendering his resignation as treasurer as ho had taken up lus permanent residence in Wellington. It was decided to elect Mr. Young a life member of the society, in appreciation of his valuable services ever since the formation of tho societ
