COAST EXPRESS COLLIDES WITH STANDING TRAIN
Passengers Not Hurt CAUSE OF ACCIDENT UNKNOWN Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The passenger express from the West Coast collided with a goods train standing on the main line at Kirweo station on Saturday afternoon. Three carriages, a van and five or six wagons were damaged, but not derailed, and no one was injured, although the passengers were flung from their seats. Tho damaged engine was able to haul the train ou to Christchurch, whero it arrived an hour and a-qunrtcr late. Railway officers wero unable to state the cause of tho accident, but it is thought tho signals were at fault. Tho damaged rolling stock was left at Kirvvee and the passengers transferred to other carriages. An inquiry into the cause of the accident is being held.
