TAXATION, DEFENCE AND EDUCATION

' (To the Editor.) Dear Sir, I as a parent strongly protest against our high school boys going into a military camp at the- showgrounds. Cannot we find something better to do with the country’s money instead of trying to make school boys into soldiers. As you know our day schools arc in urgent need of money at the recent time and the defence department is costing 6s 8d in the pound of our taxation and wo arc spending on education 3s Id in the pound. Could we chango this over and give education 6s 8d and defence 3s Id? Our school committee members ■would have a much better time and wc should have better schools. Lloyd George said, tho first condition of prosperity is to shun war. I arn. etc., PARENT, 4540 R.S.A.
