METHODIST HARVEST FESTIVAL. From Our Own Correspondent. Last Sunday was set aside as a Harvest Thanksgiving Day. Mr "Wilson preached a special service from the text, “Day unto day uttcrcth speech.” Ho emphasised that iu a thousand voices God speaks from tho earth wherefrom wc also receive an abundance of gifts. There was a record attendance at the church. On the evening of the next day there was a concert, and sale of gifts —-this was also very successful. The following artists, none of whom were local, but. hailed from Foil ding, gave a unique performance* Miss Hughs, solos; Miss Tremaine, elocutionary items; Miss Comrie and Miss Hughs, ducts; Miss Connie Martin pianoforte pieces; Air Leslie Haycock, recitations; Air Ray Osborne sold the gifts. At the finish of the -proceedings there was a general sitting down to a supper provided by the ladies. Euchre Tournament. On Tuesday night a euchre tournament was held iu aid of funds to remodel the local tennis courts’ pavilioo. There was a very good attendance. Theprizes went to the following: First prize for ladles to Airs. K. Watcrson, who received a handsome aluminium tcapo-t, donated by Air Richards. Consolation prize for ItTdics to Mrs. Hooper. First prize for gentlemen to Air Eric Schmidt, who received an alarm clock; consolation prize to Mr Fowcll. Plunket Society. The first meeting of the newly-formed Apili branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Technical school on Tuesday afternoon. Airs. Wilson, president, was in the chair. It was decided to hold the meetings quarterly; that the Plunket nurse was to bo in attendance at the Technical school every four weeks atul that the mothers were to be advised in plenty of time of the date by the secretary. The president especially thanked Airs. G. Mclntyre for her work in forming the branch, and Airs. Cantwell for giving a room during the previous visits of the nurse. Afternoon tea brought the meeting to a close.
