FREE STATE CABINET CHALLENGES PERSONNEL OF COUNCIL OF STATE
Regency Question Raised OTHER DOMINIONS SAID TO SUPPORT PRINCIPLE SOME HISTORY RECALLED. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Monday 7.0 p.m. LONDON. March 17. Tho Daily Chronicle states that it has been revealed in Dublin that the Free State has challenged the constitution of the Council of State which is acting during the King’s illness. Directly the decision was announced, 'Mr Cosgravo’s Cabinet entered a strong protest, because it had not been consulted. It maintained that tha Council should consist either of the Royal Family alone, or else certain representatives of the British Empire, and not a society of one constituent of the Empire. The Chronicle adds that tho question will be raised at the next Imperial Conference; also that of the Regency, when it is believed that the other Dominions will support the Free State. Apart from this protest, the Free State Cabinet has refused to allow tho signature of any but members of the Royal Family to appear upon any document originating from Dublin. It is recalled that there was a similar dispute between the Irish and British Parliaments over tho Regency during the madness of George 111. when tho Irish Parliament supported the claim of the Prince of Wales to become Regent de jure.
