From Our Own Correspondent. Farewell Gathering. There was a large gathering of settlers at the Hiwinui school on Friday evening to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Maul and Mrs. Tierney and family, the former having lived in tho district for 30 years and the latter having been residents of Reid’s line for the past 17 years. The social took the form of a progressive euchre evening, in which Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. H. Greenhow won the ladies’ prices and Mr. A. Lassen the men’s. During the evening Mr. H. Greenhow presented the guests of the evening with handsome gifts, on behalf of tho residents of Hiwinui, voicing the regret all felt at losing such old and highlyrespected friends. He wished them much happiness and success in their new homes. Mr. Maul and Mr. M. Tierney, in thanking the settlers for their gifts, said they would always remember their Hiwinui friends with affection. Cheers "were given and the ladies of the district provided supper, tm. gathering then closing with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” ;
