Some very good performances were put up by the competitors, despite the fact that all their swimming practice was carried cut in the river, with a current to help them. Much credit, is due to the headmaster, Mr It. Ct. Hutton, who lias been untiring in his efforts to teach his charges to swim. At the conclusion of the sports, the Terrace End school life saving team gave an exhibition of water drill which was very interesting and instructive to the local children. Football Club. The annual general meeting of the United Valley Football Club was held in the town hall on Friday evening, the president, Mr W. N. Brewer occupying the chair. In his annual report the president stated that after a lapse of several years the young men of the district had been successful in forming a local football club, under the leadership of Messers A. dcMalmancke, coach and selector, G. Annear, club captain, C. Burgess teamcaptain, and W. J. Dinnan secretary and troasurer. The district being such a scattered one, difficulty had been experienced in getting the players together for practice, and this together with the fact that the team consisted of a number of young inexperienced players, made it hard to got the team into winning form. Nevertheless, the team had done very well for its first season and there was every indication that in future it would get even better results. A fair share of the games had been played on the local ground and these had been well supported by the local public. One player had the misfortune to receive a serious injury to his ankle, incapacitating him for several weeks. Two dances had been held during the season with satisfactory results, the proceeds being handed over to the injured player. T. Patton had been appointed club captain in place of G. Annear, who had resigned during the season, and had proved himself a worthy successor. The financial position of the club was sound, the balance sheet showing a credit of £l2 Os 7d in the Post Offico Savings bank. The thanks of the club are due to the Racing club for the use of its grounds, to Mr W. Lucas for goal posts, to those who had provided cars when the team travelled, and especially to Mr W. J. Dinnan who as secretary, had more than his share of the work and worry of the cdub. Thanks were also due to the ladies who had so generously helped with the catering. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year. Patron: Mr A. W. Trass; president, Mr J. A. McDonnell; vice-presidents: Messrs. A. deMalmanche, E. R. Morris, L. G. Tremewan, V. Ansin, G. Annear, W. Cheyne, F. G. Read, W. S. Romley, J. Flowers, H. Harper, J. P. Tremewan, \7 W. Gibb, J. McLeod, R. Port, H. W. Smart, J. Martin, E. Leamy, T. Leamy, J. Leamy, P. Latham, W. A. Coombs, T. Close, W. Brockie, C. C. Thomson, S. J. Parkes, R. MacDonald, J. MacDonald, E. Friedlandcr, W. N. Brewer; secretary and treasurer, W. J. Dinnan; club captain, C. C. Youlc; coach and selector, T. Paton; delegates to Union, Messrs. R. F. Mac Kay and T. Paton; team captain, W. J. Dinnan, vice-cap-tain J. Grammer; auditor G. R. Taylor; committoe: Messrs. R. F. Mackay, W. Grammer, B. Fairies, A. deMalmanche, E. Youle, R. Apps and L. Evans. A number of new members were enrolled and the subscription for the current year was fixed at 7s Cd for playing members. Sports Club. The president has been advised by Mr C. V. Ciochctto, formerly of Ashhurst and now of Rongotea, that he will again donate the trophies for the boys’ cycle race at the forthcoming meeting. This event was included in the programme last year at Mr Ciochetto’s request and his action in donating the prizes again will be much appreciated by the members of the club. The club is also indebted to Mr E. R. Morris, of Ashhurst, who has offered a pig for the greasy pig chase. This is an event which should provide a lot of amusement to onlookers land the J prospect of winning a winter’s supply of bacon should attract a large number of competitors. Dairy Company.

Suppliers of the local company -will receive an advance of Is 5Jd on their butterfat fox February. An indication of the increase in the factory's output this season is given by the fact that the cheese manufactured up to the end of February amounted to seven tons more than the total make for the season last year.
