From Our Own Correspondent. Mrs. W. Picard leaves to-day to spend a few days with Mrs. Roach at Plimmerton. Three local Sunday schools held their annual picnics on Saturday afternoon in delightful weather. The Anglican picnic was held in the Vicarage grounds, the Methodist on Mr Carter’s property at Marinoto and the Presbyterian on Mr Gordon Mitchell’s property at the top of Stout street. A very enjoyable surprise jarty in honour of Miss Nancy Cole was held at Otaura on Wednesday, about 40 people being present. The time was spent in dancing, charades and competitions, the latter being won by Mrs. Parcell, Mrs Pat Cole and Mr Jack Reid. A community sing was also much enjoyed, also items by Messrs. K. Henry and L. Milner. Mr and Mrs. Parcell provided excellent music for dancing. It was voted one of the most enjoyable parties held in Shannon. The weekly euchre tourney held in Laurvig’s hall by the Shannon branch of the N.Z. Labour Party continues to grow in popularity. On Thursday evening sixty-four players took part and a most enjoyable evening was spent. At the conclusion of tho games supper was served. The following were the winners for the evening’s play: — Ladies: Mrs. Terry, 51b. box of tea; Mrs. Holdsworth, 251 b. of flour, Mrs. Guy lib. of tea. Men: Mr. Campie, 51b. of tea; Mr G. Hook, 251 b. of flour; Mr. Coakley, lib. of tea. The following qualified to take part in the play for the gold watch at the end of the series:— Mesdames C. Veale, Hennessey, Fell, Miss H. A. Mabey, Messrs. G. McEwen and F. Peach. Tennis. The Shannon Tennis club was engaged in a match against Mangaore club on Saturday afternoon when Mangaore won by 13 sets to six, with an aggregate of 116 games to 85. The scores were as follow, Shannon being mentioned first. Men’s Singles: Batt 6 v Campbell 7; Goodwin 5 v Ostler 7; Tayler 0 v King 7; Mabey 7 v Owen 6; Guy 7 v R. Robinson 5; Moody OvM. Robinson 7 Ladies’ Singles: Mrs. Pope 7 v Miss Robinson 6; Mrs. Curran 7 v Miss Blackwood 4; Mrs. Hudson 2 v Mrs. Elvines 7; Miss Foster 7 v Miss Gagliardi 0. Men’s Doubles: Batt and Goodwin 4 v Campbell and Ostler 7; Tayler and Mabey 3 v King and R. Robinson 7; Guy and Moody 5 v Owen and M. Robinson 7. Ladies’ Doubles: Mrs. Hudson and Miss Curran 5 v Mrs. Ostler and Mrs. Elvines 7; Mrs. Pope and Miss Foster 6 v Miss Blackwood and Miss Robinson 7. Mixed Doubles: Mrs Pope and Batt 7 v Mrs. Ostler and Campbell 4; Miss Curran and Goodwin 2 v Mrs. Elvines and Ostler 7; Mrs. Hudson and Tayler 2 v Miss Blackwood and King 7; Miss Foster and Mabey 3 v Miss Robinson and Owen 7.
