POWER BOARD PROGRESS DURING PAST MONTH

ENGINEER’S REPORT. The report presented to the Manawatu Oroua Power Board l)y its engineer (Mr. W. A. Waters) nt the monthly meeting held yesterday was as follows: — Linos:—Pohangina: The first section has been completed to the air break switch at Mr. J. H. Steven’s woolshcd, nnd is now supplying current to consumers in that area. The second section including tho erection cf poles, wire and transformers has (with the exception of insulators) been completed as far as Mr. F. Robert’s. Poles have been erected and wire run out as far as the air break at Mr. P. P 'o, but we are now hold up for Buller insulators which ore expeeted any day. The short extension on Ccdyton-Tao-nui road has been finished, alterations in wire size on low tension line off same transformer to pick np increasing loads and now consumers. The Stan-way-Waituna line will be completed in a few days. Hayne’s line extension has been completed and consumers given supply. Extra transformers have been erocted at Taonui, Aorangi and Tokorangi and existing long feeds on low tension linos, shortened in consequonce. Consumers: —Tho usual service lines wero erected during tho month and supply given to the following consumers j—Light and heating 14, ranges 12, water heaters 13, motors for milking 3, industrial motors 1. other motors 16, additions 27, total 86. Interruptions: —During the month, wc had several interruptions .of power owing to dust and salt spray or. the Government insulators, but this trouble has been remedied by tho Public Works Department, and steps are being taken to obviato this trouble in the future. We had several interruptions on the Eangiotu feeder, tho cause of which we could not trace, but was finally located in two damaged lightning arresters on different phases, which were four miles apart, and one arrester was helping the other to cause the troubles. This has been remedied, and is the fourth lightning arrester that has been put out of action in that area duo to direct strokes of lightning.
