RUSSELL STREET SCHOOL
ARRANGEMENTS FOR OPENING. A meeting- of the Russell street school committee was held last evening. Present: Messrs H. R. Harvey (chairman), E. R. Harris, D. Morrison, J. Erenstrom, and Miss Anderson. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. R. Farquhar and J. H. Stevens. . The acting headmaster, Mr. R. Invm, wrote assuring tho committee that ho Vould do his utmost to give the school a fair start and will work his hardest while there. . , The secretary of the Education Board wrote requesting the committee to submit tho names of two persons to act as commissioners until the election of the permanent committee on 15th. April next. These commissioners will be responsible for the handling of tho school funds. It was decided to forward the names of Messrs F. W. Coombs and F. T. Vasoy. The provisional committee will act in conjunction with these gentlemen. The committee decided to circularise householders in the school district calling attention to tho necessity for sending every available child to school in order to have the school graded as high as possible. It was decided if possible to arrange for the Minister of Education to perform the opening ceremony on a date to suit his convenience.
A meeting of ladies is to be held later to make arrangements for afternoon tea on the opening day. Mr. Irwin, headmaster, will be at the school at 9 o’clock on Monday next to enrol pupils.
