V.R.C. AUTUMN MEETING. Australian Press Association. Received Tuesday, S p.m. MELBOURNE, March 5. The weather was fine and bright for tho second day of the Victoria Racing club’s autumn meeting at Flemington. There was a large attendance. An outsiler, Hathalie, won the Hopeful Stakes nicely. The trainer, Foulsham, had a previous success in the same race with Redshank. Mytanis led always in the Elms handicap and won nicely. He is brother to Morell which was recently raffled in aid of the Lord Mayor’s fund. His owner is E. E. D. Clarke. Le Procyn was prominent throughout and won the March Steeplechase. It was a good race. His owner, A. T. Craig, also races Bitalli, whose trainer, Scobie has also Mytanis. The first prize in the Cup is £2718. Results:— HOPEFUL STAKES, 5 furlongs: HATHALIE, 7.7 1 GREENVIEW, 7.7 2 AMOUR PROPRE, 7.8 .. 3 Nineteen starters. Won by balf a length, threequarters of a length between second and third. Benjamin was fourth. Time, 1.24. ELMS HANDICAP, 7 furlongs: MYTANIS, 6.11 1 LALIQUE, 7.11 2 RED JAVELIN, 6.11 .... 3 Eight started. Won by two lengths, feur lengths between second and third. Silent Quest was fourth. Time, 1.39. MARCH STEEPLECHASE, 2 mile: LE PROCYN, 9.6 1 ORANGE PARK, 9.8 .. .. 2 JUBBA, 9.0 3 Eight started. Won by one and threcquarter lengths, 12 lengths between second and third. Severac ran off. Time, 4.5.
SOME QUALITY WINS AUSTRALIAN CUP,
The cup proved a great race, Some Quality, which lay third at the last mile, won in the last few strides from Kidaides and Octembcr. Mondiaga had every chance. Some Quality won recently at Port Adelaide and has now won a total of £8463 in stakes as tho result of six wins, 14 seconds and eight thirds. He was one of the favourites since tho weights were declared. ' North Star, on the outer rails, led throughout in the nursery and won easily. He cost 575 guineas as a yearling and has recorded two wins and a third in four starts.
There wias a great finish in the Bourke handicap, Pecunia coming on at a great pace and making a dead heat in the last stride with Gilt Edge, a stable mate of Mytanis and Le Procyn. Gilt Edge is owned by A. T. Craig. AUSTRALIAN CUP, 2\ miles.

There were 15 starters. Mondiaga was the first leader and Bavaroy led in tho straight the first time, where the last three were Some Quality. Naos and Valamita. Answer was in front passing the stand and at the mile, was leading from Bavaroy, while close up were Kidaides, Mondiaga. Amorc, Leadlight and The Banker, with Some Quality third last. Then Kidaides was rushed to the front approaching the turn, where Some Quality moved up. Kidaides and Octembcr were together ot tho entrance to the straight. Some Quality was next, outside Even and Mondiaga. Some Quality won in the last few strides by a neck, with Oetember balf a head away, then came Tho Banker, Mondiaga, Lcadlight, Gleamlight and Naos, with Amore last. Time, 3.55 J. MARCH NURSERY, 6 furlongs.
' NORTH STAR, 8.2 .. 1 LINEAGE. 7.2 2 BESSEMER, 6.1 3 Fifteen starters. Won by five lengths, one and three-quarters of a length between second and third. Neretti was fourth. Time, 1.145. BOURKE HANDICAP, 7 furlongs. GILT EDGE, 7.13 * PECUNIA, 6.9 * HARRY GAVIN, 7.11 3 The third horse one and a half lengths away. Eleven started. Crowdel was fourth. Time, 1.265. Sectional times in the Cup were first six furlongs 1.24, next four 50$, last four 50$, last mile 1.41, final 12 furlongs 2.315. The trainer E. Fisher, gave 1200 guineas for a Night Patrol colt at yesterday’s sales. LIMERICK AND CO. ARRIVE IN SYDNEY. VERTIGERN DOING GOOD WORK. Received Tuesday 9.0 p.m. SYDNEY, March 5. Limerick, looking as well as ever, and six other New Zealand horses arrived by Marama to-day. All are ready for an immediate preparation. Limerick’s trainer, Jones, said he was confident Limerick’s race for the Hazlett Gold Cup did him good, but he would not claim Limerick was as good as last year. Bagby intends to seek permission both to train and ride whilo here. If he is refused, he will merely obtain a license to ride. Amongst best performers at the Randwick track to-day is the New Zealander Vertigern, which concluded pace work over half a mile in SlAsecs.
