KILLED BY A FALL OF EARTH
Apiti Road Deviation YOUNG LABOURER’S DEATH Whilst working on a road deviation undertaking at Apiti yesterday morning, a young unmarried labourer, named Jock Marsden, met his death through being crushed by a fail of earth. The scene of the accident is the big cutting which is being made at the top of the hill on the main road leading into Apiti at a point about three miles or. the Feilding side of the township. Work has only recently been resumed on this cutting and yesterday morning at about 9 o’clock, while Marsden was working a horse dray, a big fall of earth came down and overwhelmed him. In spite of prompt rescue work, Marsden was apparently killed outright. Constable Ferguson, of Kimbolton, made investigations. An inquest will be held at Kimbolton, by Mr E. Goodbehere, J.P., district coroner, at 10 o’clock this morning.
The late Mr Marsden who was about 30 years of age, originally came from Christchurch and until recently, resided in Palmerston North.
