SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT ON RECENT PRICES
AT NAPIER WOOL SALE. PRONOUNCED DEMAND FROM FRENCH SOURCES. Per Press Association. NAPIER, Last Night. Wool values at the fourth sale of the season in Napier to-day showed an improvement of a half-penny on the prices realised at Auckland and Wanganui. 1 Compared with the January sale in Napier, prices were lower by a penny half-penny to twopence, but the condition of wool offered to-day was not up to the standard of that submitted at earlier auctions, when some of tho best clips Hawke’s Bay has seen for many seasons were offered. To-day’s catalogues totalled 28,027 bales and about 85 per cent was disposed of under the hammer. Buyers were present representing all the usual consuming centres. Americana did not operate very freely, there being a limited quantity of wool suited to their requirements.Competition generally was keen, evidently the lower range of prices permitting buyers to get within their limits. French competition was pronounced, with Bradford a close second but there did not appear to be such keen competition from German interests as in eaHier sales. The official range of prices were not obtainable to-night.
