Sir Gerald Strickland denies reports that he has been ex communicated. Mr. Bartols, Minister of Migration, in defining the respective spheres. of ciyil and ecclesiastical jurisdiction, made it clear to the Senate that nothing would sidetrack tho government from protecting a British subject from banishment from British territory and his own country, under tho pretext of religious discipline. Reuter reports that public opinion is strongly behind the government.
