MILITANT ELEMENT IN NORTHERN COALFIELDS
WOULD WITHDRAW SAFETY MEN. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, March. S. Now that notices to the miners in the Northern coalfields are operating, a militant minority among the mon is expected to procure the withdrawal of tho safety men from tho workings. The Communists aro of opinion that they must force the owners’ hands by letting them see the mines go to rain unless they mako terms. Union opinion generally, however, does not favour such a step and the central governing authority threatens to deal with unauthorised organisations, such as councils of action. Measures are being taken for tho welfare of the 10,000 miners who have received notice.
