DUAL BETWEEN GIRL RUNNERS

MARGARET BARRON’S SUCCESS. Great interest was taken at tho Manawatu A. A. and C. club's sports meeting on Saturday in the test 100yds between Miss Phyllis Stewart (Wairoa) and Miss M. Barron (Foxton) who is the club’s hope for a future New Zealand ladies 100yds championship. Miss Stewart was billed to meet Miss Norma Wilson, of Gisborne, who went to the Olympic games last year as New Zealand’s lady sprinter, but unfortunately, Miss Wilson was unable to appear in Palmerston North owing to illness. Miss Stewart came down to Palmerston North with the reputation of being as good as Miss Wilson. The two have never raced together and the event was being looked forward to. Miss Barron’s win, however, thoroughly pleased the spectators. ” Negotiations arc now on foot for the meeting of Miss E. Martyn (Christchurch) the present New Zealand lady champion and Miss Barron. These two runners have entirely different styles and are also of different build.

Miss Martyn won the championship at Wellington recently covering the 100yds in 12secs against a slight head wind as against Miss Barron’s 11 2-5 with a side-on wind.
