PRESBYTERIAN PICNIC

The combined picnic of St. Andrew’s, St. David’s and Lombard Street Sunday Schools was held on Saturday at the Domain, Ashhurst, under ideal weather conditions. An unusually large number of children made the journey, leaving the station by the 10 a.m. train. The catering was in the hands of ii' capable committee from the different schools under the convenership of Mrs. J. Aitcheson, and their efforts left nothing to be desired. A sports programme was arranged and carried through by Mr. Allen, of St. David’s. The river, as usual, proved an irresistible attaction to many of the picnickers, and the swings and roundabouts, etc., had a full measure of attention. The parents and their friends, of whom a large number attended especially in the afternoon, found the shade of the treee and the charm of the afternoon tea-pot the most alluring diversion. The usual treats of fruits, sweets and soft drinks were eagerly patronised, but the abundance of these good things did not prevent tho ice-cream stall from doing a brisk trade. It was a happy and contented, if a slightly wearied crowd of young folk, that made their way home again by the 5.50 train after a delightful day in the open.
