BAND LEAVES FOR WANGANUI CONTEST
IMPRESSIVE REHEARSAL. SHOWGROUND CONCERT FINANCIAL SUCCESS. Tho concert given by the Palmerston North Garrison Baird in tho Showground yesterday afternoon prior to their departure for tho Wanganui contest was well patronised by the public, who were unanimous in appreciation of the programme rendered. Tho music consisted of contest pieces including the quickstep and so proficient was the band in the latter performance that it is considered it has an exceedingly good chance of winning that event. As the band marched past tho stand, spontaneous applause burst from the Hudience.
The concert returned the splendid financial result of £lO 10s.
Prior to leaving by bus for Wanganui at 0 o’clock, the band gave an item at tho Post Office, when occasion was taken by tho Mayor (Mr. A. J. Graham) to bid it farewell on behalf of the municipality and wish it thi! best of luck at the contest.
