SPLENDID RESULTS OF RED TRIANGLE CANVASS

Over £2OO Collected

Splendid results attended tlio campaign on Saturday to reduce the debit balance in the funds of tiic Palmerston North Y.M.C.A. Over £2OO was collected, with several small amounts to conic in.

The campaign was well organisod by Mr. C. Woo'ds, physical director, assisted by a committee consisting of Messrs D. T. Allen, ,T. Dick, T. It. Hoddcr, J. Wallace and S. Kingston, and no doubt tho success of the drive was a result of the systematic and complete arrangements that were made. The business quarters of the town were divided amongst a band or helpers who plied with earnestness ail day long, collecting the odd silver coins which in aggregate made such a handsome donation to the association. In the afternoon, a procession very successfully drew attention to the campaign. There was a large number of decorated cars both private and business, vehicles, headed by the Pipe Band and Fire Brigade. For the best exhibits, prizes were awarded the following:— Decorated private car: Mr. L. Cob linson.

Decorated industrial exhibit: Mr. Carl Ncilscn.

Decorated motor cycle: Indian exhibit.

Many of the competitors went to a great deal of trouble with the decorations and the thanks of tho Y.M.C.A. are due to them for the assistance they thus gave the icampaign. The judges were Messrs W. G. Ross and Cook, of the C. M. Ross, Co., while the procession was organised by Messrs J. Selwyn, T. .laggard and W. E. Winks. The canvassers whose services were enlisted were as follow: —Misses L. Barfinal effort was made in the evening, when a concert party contributed items from a lorry in tho Square while collectors were busy amidst the crowd.

Sir —On behalf of the board of directors of the Y.M.C.A., Palmerston North, I wish to thank all citizens and residents of the surrounding district, who contributed to our financial needs on Saturday—Red Triangle Day. Wc are specially grateful to the citizens who came forward and accompanied tho young ladies in their canvass of tho shops and offices in tho forenoon. It was a conspicuous success raising more than half of the amount given throughout the day-. To all the young ladies who assisted in the collecting, the boys’ division which helped considerably to swell our total to the Rotarians who organised the procession and tho Optimists club, who put a lot of ginger into their appeal, and specially to the Pipe band and Fire brigade, which came forward so cordially and freely to assist us in the day’s programme, wo are grateful.
