NOTES. Quite a number of trotting enthusiasts -were at the trotting training track on Mr. Biiick’s property over the weekend. Von, David and Some Jazz worked out one and a-hali miles, the firstnamed winning by a length, though Some Jazz gave the others a good start. Atholwcy and Bessie Bingen worked several half-miles and then went 8 furlongs together, Bessie showing to better advantage. *■ Amblcside did a couple of rounds at a solid pace, finishing nicely. Aeelzion was a bit tender on pulling up after a little pace work. Several others were jogged in serviceable tasks. The Manawatu Trotting Club has reas son to congratulate itself on the excellent nominations received. The total is 179, which is 42 more than last year. Every race skows*an accretion of support and the big event in particular should provide a good contest. Horses from Christchurch, Blenbeim, Kaikoura, the Hutt, Auckland, Waikato, Hastings, the Wairarapa, Hawera, besides local stables, will all add their quota to the fields. Mr. J. A. Mitchell, of Longburn, gave eleven nominations, and Mr. J. D. Piper, Pahiatua, eight, and J'. R. Corrigan, Hawera, supported the entries to the extent of 15. “Scotty” Biyce has also nominated handsomely. The trophy to go with the money prize for the principal event at the Manawatu Trotting Club’s meeting this year is a handsome silver service of i plate of four pieces valued at 25 ' guineas, which Air. W. Mouldcv’s gen erosity has enabled the Club to add to the winning stake. In addition, Mr. 1 E. B. Vine is donating a whip to tho driver of the winnex.
