HERD-TESTING

MANAWATU EXECUTIVE MEETS.

NEED FOR PROMPT PAYMENT OF FEES.

Mr. W. H. Gimblett presided over the monthly meeting of the executive of the Manawatu Herd Testing association yesterday. Also present were Messrs'F. J. Legg, R. W. Evans, M. E. Knudscn, K. G. Gimblott, • E. Thomas, A. Hardhnni, A. G. Sweetaian and W. S. Fell.

Tho secretary (Mr. J. Ferguson) reported on a visit to Paraparaumu, where he had addressed a mooting and as a result testing with the Manawatu association would be taken up this season.

The secretary was instructed to arrange for a field day on the farm of Messrs Conlan Bros., Oroua Downs. The chairman reported that the deputation appointed to go to Wellington to see tho Department of Agriculture in regard to the allocation of tho herd testing subsidy, had not gone, following "upon receipt of further information from tho secretary of tho federation. Had that information been before the last meeting, the deputation would not have been appointed, he felt sure. . lu answer to Mr Evans, the chairman stated that the Federation did not propose to deduct anything from the subsidy before handing it over to tho various branches, pro rata. Mr Gimblott added further that the success of herd testing in the coming season would depend on the government subsidy. The financial position, of the executive was a little precarious owing to outstanding subscriptions. It seemed the association would always have to have an overdraft unless a reserve fund was established. It would be disastrous if the bank would, not allow an overdraft.

Mr. F. J. Legg thought tho chairman was a little pessimistic and even if certain of the guarantors dropped out, others could be formed to take their place. Mr Dalziel regretted that those farmers who had failed to pay up in previous seasons had be on admitted again to the association. The financial report of the secretary showed that £lOsl 7s was due in outstanding testing feoe. The balance in the hank was £lOl 7b 9d and after payment of accounts due, an overdraft of £196 12s 9d would be necessary but he thought that further fees would be received shortly to meet the deficiency. Further was heard of the financial position in the afternoon, when at the request of the executive, delegates were present from all the dairy companies within the association’s district to discuss the matter.

A full report of the proceedings is printed in another column.
