Viscount Hampden Visits Longbura Freezing Works On Friday, Briga’dicr-Gcneral Thomas Walter Brand, K.C.8., K.C.M.G., third Viscount Hampden, chairman of directors of the 'Rational Mortgage and Agency Co., of New Zealand Ltd. was a visitor to the company’s freezing works at Longburn.

The visitor stated that he was in the Dominion to acquire a first-hand knowledge of business interests and to holiday. The Viscount has already done the South Island, where his firm’s interests are mostly centred. "I have been all through the South Island and am very pleacod indeed with the business stability found,” be continued. “I have also learned a great deal. While business is the primary motive for my visit, I am not averse to catching a few Lake Taupo trout. I hope also to visit the Wellington races, as I have not yet seen a New Zealand Tace meeting. "I think New Zealand is a wonderful country,” added the visitor. "The people aTe most hospitable. It has been refreshing to note the interest and activity, as well as the prosperity of the agricultural world, which I am afraid is in a parlous state in England at present. I visited the Dunedin and Invercargill shows, and was impressed with the general quality of the stock.”

It is the Viscount’s intention to spend three weeks in the North Island which he is. anxious to sco prior to catching the Niagara at Auckland on February 12 for Vancouver. Viscount Hampden returned to Wellington on Saturday.

Viscount Hampden was born in 1869. He is tho third Viscount, the titlo having been created in 1884. He is also the 25th Biaron Dacre, the barony dating back to 1307. , Entering the Army in 18S9, he saw service in Sonth Africa, being mentioned in dispatches, and in the European war 1914-18, when ho was mentioned in dispatches seven times. - In 1924 he was appointed a Lord in Waiting to the King.
