TWO MONTHS GAOL FOR INDECENT LANGUAGE
ACCUSED ADVISED TO MEND HIS WAYS. When Harry Evans, 46 years of age, described as a labourer and tinsmith, stepped from tho dock of tho Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday, he had been convicted of his 26th offence against the law, Evans carried with him three aliases having been known to the' police as Harry Taylor, Alfred Whitehead and Travers. The charges preferred against him yesterday were drunkedhess, using indecent language in a public place and damaging a eel) utensil. Accused -pleaded guilty to all offences. A witness "told the Bench that he saw accused in Main street on Saturday at the time ho used the indecent language. Evans’s fluent exhibition of a torrid tongue caused a crowd to collect in no tim?. ■’ - •* Constable Turvoy said that Evans had apparently been in argument with another man over half a crown. Senior Sergeant Whitehouse observed that' -accusod was an undosirable sort of man to have about the town. He had 23 provious convictions for such offences as indecency, theft, escape from custody, false pretenses, wilful damage, being drunk and disorderly, etc. The Bench (Messrs T. E. Hodder and D. J. Lovelock, J.’s P.) imposed a penalty of £5 in default two months’ gaol, on the indecont language charge; a fine of £1 in default ono month for damaging the cell utensil. On the drunkenness charge ho was convicted and discharged. “Wo adviso you to mend your ways,” commented tho senior justice. Accused: I will in future.
