Excellent Quality CONTINENT OUTBIDS BRADFORD BUYERS CORRIEDALE TOUCHES 26 PENCE. ! Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Tho second Christchurch wool sale of the season was held to-day, when a catalogue of 25,100 bales was offered. The wool was of excellent quality, being bright and well grown. The bench of buyers was fully manned and included for the first time _in some years, a Russian representative, who was prominent in tho competition throughout. The sale was a most, satisfactory one. A selection of good wool was offered in the first catalogue and bidding was keen and animated throughout. The outstanding feature was the strength of the Continental competition, which secured a heavier proportion of the offering than at any previous sale, at this centre. French, Italian and Russian buying limits appeared to be a good penny above those of Bradford and the Old Country .secured a lesser weight of the offering than for a long time. Purchases by the local mills were the next important feature in the market and any outside buyers after super wools of line quality had to pay for them. American competition was also more pronounced, but local fellmon, gers found the Continental values for scouring wools too high for them. A feature of the sale was the market for strong halfbreds amUthrcequarterbreds. This class advanced on the December sale by approximately a penny a lb. Super half bred , and Corriedale were little if any better than fit the opening sales, considering tho outstanding quality of the wools. Merino showed a slight hardening and best prices .advanced by up to a half-penny. Medium pieces showed no advance but this class in the past has been the remarkably strong feature of the sales. All classes of. hogget wool were in keen demand. The passings were less than 5 per cent of tlio catalogue. Top prices were 20d for the first classings of two clips of Corriedale, this figure being the top price so far recorded in the Dominion this .season Half a dozen lots of Corriedalo and halfbred made 244 to 24£- and a number of others over 224c1.
