SIR DOUGLAS MAWSON REACHES WELLINGTON

ROSS SEA EXPLORATION. Per Press Association, WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. Sir Douglar Mawson arrived from Sydney this morning While in England he made investigations with regard to a suitable ship and equipment lor carrying on further coastal surveys in the south Australian region. The matter he hopes to sec finalised during tho coming year. . In discussing the various Antarctic expeditions, he said that there was no question that Commander Byrd’s expedition might be expected to return with an immense amount of valuable information relating to the Ross Sea area. Very valuable results should accrue because of the splendid equipment and good management evident. Sir George Wilkins’ expedition on tho other hand was limited in personnel and equipment, and, taking with this limitation of base, it was not likely to accumulate a great deal of information of scientific value, although it might be able to chart some of the unknown coastlines.
